Head of Engineering for a leading Community Rewards Platform
About the Role
TYB (Try Your Best) is a community commerce and rewards platform where top brands engage and reward their communities for taking valuable actions. They have a unique B2B2C product with a growing user base of paying brands and engaged users, and recently closed an $11M Series A led by Offline, Strobe, and Coinbase.
TYB is seeking a Head of Engineering to transform its existing technical team and platform into a world-class operation. This leader will play a key role in shaping the company’s trajectory as they prepare for their Series B and beyond. The Head of Engineering will partner closely with Product and Design to turn big ideas into shipped software and outcomes that drive growth, retention, and brand adoption. The role focuses on building scalable systems, improving delivery predictability, and embedding a culture of operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Act as a strategic partner to leadership, communicate complexity and trade-offs, and contribute to the company’s direction.
- Set the technology vision, strategy, roadmap, and budget aligned with company goals.
- Partner with product, design, and stakeholders to deliver on product goals and roadmap.
- Be hands-on while building, leading, and mentoring a high-performing tech organization, including tech leads and engineering managers, and scaling the team from small squads (~10 engineers) to larger structures (40–60+ engineers).
- Establish and continuously refine engineering best practices, processes, and rituals to ensure timely delivery of high-quality software, including CI/CD, automated testing, and feature flags.
- Ensure data is accurate, accessible, and at the forefront of decision making.
- Implement and maintain event tracking, experimentation frameworks, and analytics pipelines to support product decisions.
- Conduct org assessments and identify top technical and process risks.
- Introduce quality measures to reduce regressions and improve release predictability.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively to ensure alignment, solve problems, and deliver positive outcomes.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Ideal Candidate Has
- Attained a degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Built full-stack web, native mobile, or data applications. You don’t need to be hands-on day-to-day but you’ve been a builder and can speak with authority.
- Designed high performance systems to power consumer products with real scale.
- Scaled tech organizations at high growth, early-stage startups, building leadership layers and delegating effectively.
- Experienced building teams in early-stage environments and implementing systems for growth, especially going from Series A to Series C/D scale.
- Mentored and grown engineering talent across Dev, DevOps, Data, and QA.
- Implemented development processes and engineering operations that scale.
- Refactored legacy platforms with large amounts of tech debt.
- Demonstrated ability to operate both strategically and tactically to solve problems and achieve business outcomes.
- A defaults towards trade-off thinking, balancing speed, quality, and business priorities.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including documentation.
- Comfortable aligning engineering work with measurable business outcomes.

- E-commerce platforms and integrations, especially Shopify.
- Building social-networking or community features.
- Working on B2B and B2B2C products in addition to B2C products.
- Experience shipping high-traffic consumer mobile apps (1M+ DAUs).
- Familiarity with UGC and anti-SPAM / anti-abuse systems.
- Working with web3 and blockchain technologies.
